Tāmaki Makaurau artist Jackson Boswell is bringing a new depth to his songwriting, vocals and performance in latest release, Games. Following the 2021 releases of singles Miss You and Not Quite Enough, at age 15, the artist is about to turn 17 and is excited for the next era of his music.
“I’ve been exploring a multitude of musical genres and finding my sound over the past couple years,” Jackson explains, “but I am confident that Games is the start of an extremely exciting project that encompasses me as an artist, and as a human being, perfectly.”
As an accomplished drummer, singer and multi-instrumentalist, the young artist has been pushing boundaries with his craft, and collaborated with producer Christian Tjandrawinata to see what they could come up with for this track. Together, they have developed the texture of this work by experimenting with alternative sounds and audio effects, which has resulted in a stunning backdrop to Jackson’s strong vocals.
Games follows the narrative of a deteriorating relationship, and the confusion that can come with it. The inspiration for the track came from Jackson’s friends, and the artist witnessing a pivotal moment in their break up when one proclaimed to the other, “I don’t want to play your games.”
The track is accompanied by a stunning visualiser, created by Christian and himself, that includes powerful performance shots and abstract editing, continuing to prove how far the young artist has evolved. “I’m excited for people to hear this new era of ‘Jackson Boswell’ and too look forward to what’s coming next,” says Jackson.
Games is out now on all streaming platforms.
Join Jackson, 8pm Friday 12th August for the premiere of the Games music video.
