Fin Rah Zel Offer Up A Friday Afternoon Aural Delight With 'Relax'

21 October 2022 - 0 Comments

Laid back Taranaki indie-soul band Fin Rah Zel leave winter behind with sunny new single Relax, a charming, perfectly-formed tune that resonates with the sweetest melody and evokes a serene vibe of inner peace.

LISTEN TO RELAX HERE

Like a mood-boosting serotonin dose of warm sunshine, Relax washes gently over you with its soothing radiance, immediately setting the vibe to unwind. An absolute ear-worm of a song, Relax oozes all the meditative feels, a soulful reminder to slow down, allow yourself a breather and take stock of where you’re at.

Marking an interesting period in his life, singer/guitarist Brian Norton wrote the track while working overseas on an oil and gas site in central Queensland:

“I’d gone to Australia after living in America for a year, and I was feeling quite down at the time and searching for more meaning in my life. While reflecting on that time in the US, a memory popped up about my time in New York. The city was crammed with people, all hustling to get ahead in life, and I soon found myself caught up in chasing that ‘dream’. I remembered how I had wanted to be famous and at the top of the music scene – that was my idea of success back then. But after meeting some key music industry people and getting caught up in the materialistic life, I realised that this wasn’t a dream that aligned with my values at all.”

The realisation that he was pursuing something that no longer held any meaning for him was an important and liberating life-step for Brian. That lesson has become a key inspiration for his relatable, soul-soothing song-writing, and keeps him grounded and true to his course of feeling connected to community and nature.

Brian continues: “Relax was written about the importance of checking in on yourself while in pursuit of your dreams and goals, to not get led astray with the emotional highs. The following lyrics are the essence of the song, and a bit of a self-affirmation for us all, no matter what we are pursuing:”

I’ve got to take the time to just relax

And set my mind to just kicking back

Oh no nobody needs to overreact

If it ain’t love

Once again, regular collaborator William Henderson was on board for co-production, mixing and mastering duties, an ‘almost’ fifth member of the band. It’s a combination that is excelling at making a soul-pop mix that exudes the relaxed, feel-good cruisy vibe that Fin Rah Zel are fast gaining a reputation for. Will also has a cool tranquil Japanese garden to boot, a perfect fit for this community-minded band of West Coast surfers and nature-lovers who consistently make music with a very Zen and transcendent approach to life!

Relax follows previous singles Power, Negativity No More and Human Nature, and the band plan to release their upcoming album in 2023.

Meanwhile Brian and his bandmates Chris Buhler (Bass), Jordan Jones (Percussion), and Jack Moser (Keys) look forward to playing Seaside Sounds and headlining Christmas at the Bowl in December, and have their sights set on a summer of music festivals performances nationwide.
