Raised in a bustling family of jazz muscians, Wāhine Māori GiGi lived in a world supporting singing, songwriting & learning instruments from a young age. Believing in the power of story telling & intuitively processing emotion into sound, experience into tune & season into song, she continues to spellbind audiences with her unique & powerful stage presence.
GiGi's debut EP Seasons of the Soul is finally reaching it's conclusion on 2nd of November with the release of the 4th track In my Bones a mellow storytelling sandwich with a dark spiralling, marrowy center. The song is a soft, gorgeous traversing of narrative with a whirlpool of haunting vocals, chanting and explosive melody with it's surprising center section. With this final release, the EP will also be available in high quality download on Bandcamp, alongside limited edition prints by GiGi herself to celebrate the conclusion of a musical year and the beginning of a new spiral.
On the 4th of November GiGi will be also releasing Te Toto Te Marama, translating to 'the blood the moon'. A potent weaving of raw spoken word and eerie vocals, unlike anything else she has done. Accompanied by Taōnga Pūoro and Acoustic guitar, 3 musicians improvise a story of whakapapa, the power of papatuānuku giving life & death & the wāhine who bridge between them.
