Beautiful vocal harmonies and lush, distinctive guitars are gently supported by delicate and thoughtful strings interrupted by side-serves of astral synth. Buying Heaven is a reflective and melancholic modern country-influenced ballad about surviving the inequities that happen in family break-ups, written by Jaqualyn Taimana Williams.
This is a re-release as the track first met the ears of the public in 2005 as part of a free local songwriters CD distributed by The Christchurch Press and the NZ Music Commission for NZ Music Month. Jaqualyn Taimana Williams is a Kiwi musician/songwriter of bilingual te reo Māori songs for children and rock fusion music for adults.
Producer David Saunders is a former CPIT Jazz School tutor, session guitarist and keyboard player for international acts such as Pink Floyd and Dire Straits. David shared the track with Emmy Lou Harris, who mentioned it on her website in 2006. The photograph on the artwork was taken in Christchurch in 1994 when Jaqi was 25 by photographer Petajon Sissons.
“This song reflects on one of the most transformative but emotionally difficult times in my life,” says Jaqi.
