Aotearoa hip-hop royalty Deceptikonz pulled off the comeback of the year when they dropped One Time - their first single in a decade. Now they’ve upped the ante with the release of a full-length album, In Perpetuity.
The 13-track album is packed with bangers and guaranteed to resonate not only with ‘day one’ Deceptikonz fans but also a new generation of music lovers.

The formidable foursome - Mareko, Savage, Frisko and Devolo - started making the album in 2020 before the pandemic hit and due to the impact of back-to-back lockdowns, it has taken two years to come to fruition. But as fans are about to find out, it was worth the wait!
“We weren't trying to make hit records or aim for a charting position,” says Savage. “We were just creating feel-good music that resonates with our people and has some sort of message.”
“The album shows growth both individually and as a group. It also Highlights our own personal views and experiences on various situations at the same time it showcases what we can each bring to the table as a collective,” adds Savage.
This is evident on the album’s lead single One Time, a poignant and moving song, which was released last Friday and shot straight to the top of the iTunes chart. It’s accompanied by an equally moving video.

Other stand-out tracks on the record include the opener Season Of Change, Light The Way featuring Shaxe Oriah and David Dallas, and Verbal Abuse featuring R.E.S and SWIDT.
Deceptikonz pulled together a team of the best in the game to work on the album, including producer Ricky Paul.
“Ricky's production really laid the foundation of the album,” says Savage. “He definitely went above and beyond with his production bringing in violinist, vocalist, saxophonist and so much more including Sir Elton John’s harmonica player, Tren. He sourced each of these musicians from all over the world,” says Savage.
Others well-known names who also take production credits are: Smokey Got Beatz, Two Piece Tyson AKA INF, Dei Hamo and A List producer Sick Drums, who has worked with the likes of Rihanna and Post Malone.
The members of Deceptikonz hail from Manurewa. They took New Zealand by storm in the early 2000's with their one-of-a-kind style of hip-hop. Their debut album Elimination gained them international recognition and set them on a path to dominance on the local scene with 2006’s mixtape We Back Motherf#%@ers Vol 1 in preparation for their sophomore album, Heavy Rotation. 2010’s Evolution: Past, Present Beyond followed and Deceptikonz played their final show as a collective on July 10, 2010 at The Studio in K Rd before they going on to continue solo endeavours.
