Yon Loader is a new recording project led by James Stuteley.
Made in various sessions in various places, the project weaves together many elements and talents of Aotearoa indie and emo. Used to sitting behind the drum kit in Carb on Carb, James takes the reins in Yon Loader, composing the core of the song before fleshing it out with help from his 6 rotating collaborators and key engineer and producer Harry Lilley. These collaborators (including members of Recitals, Welcomer, For Everest, Model Home, Fouler, First Move and Bad Friend) take James’ simple and candid compositions and build an album of big rock songs and poignant interludes (out July 2023).
Victoria Chellew, one of the two lead singers on the album, takes us away on this first single Another Year. It introduces the themes of the album; musically, repeated refrains, and lyrically, describing and dating vivid moments. Starting with an isolated lead, the song builds through understated verses before opening out into an enveloping and melancholy chorus about capturing the moment, “Let’s forget how close this story is to its end.”
Another Year is available everywhere via Papaiti Records.
