The track serves as a fusion of Kiwi and Chilean cultures, showcasing Amila's diverse musical influences and unique artistic voice.

Changes follows the success of Amila’s introspective single Break the Pattern. With her new single, Amila is lifting the tempo – signifying a shift towards an upbeat and dynamic sound and previewing what can be expected from her upcoming EP, Life Changes.

In anticipation of the release, Amila shared her excitement about Changes, stating, “This is a special song, and it's something you haven’t really heard before from any Kiwi artist. It’s a celebration of my heritage and the unique blend of cultures that have shaped my identity.

“I’m so passionate about this song and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

Amila (pronounced ‘a-meela’) combines Chilean and Aotearoa culture and sounds in an NZ-pop first. Her music draws inspiration from the raw guitars of the 70's, vibrant salsa anthems of her homeland, and the strong visuals of the modern pop world.

Amila says that in Chilean culture, it is common to deal with difficult themes and emotions through upbeat music and dance. This idea inspired Amila in the creation of Life Changes.

She says, "I wanted to create something vibrant and energetic that would make people dance and uplift their spirits."

Five AM Managing Director and Grammy Nominee Rory Noble says Amila’s music is, “a sign of the times for New Zealand pop music.”

“We’re seeing a growing trend of homegrown music with diverse international influences, sounds, and language. Amila is a perfect example of what Aotearoa can offer to the globalised pop world, and what this world can offer to Aotearoa,” says Noble.

Changes was created on a Five AM Write Night, a space for creativity and collaboration. The track, along with the rest of the EP was produced by Dan Martin (‘35’ producer, 2022 Silver Scroll Award Winner).

Born in Chile, Amila moved to New Zealand with her family when she was 7 years old. Music provided a way for Spanish-speaking Amila to learn English and express herself as a newcomer to life and culture in Aotearoa. Amila recently performed at Parliament for the 50th Anniversary of Chile and New Zealand Embassies commemoration.

Changes is available now on all music platforms.
