Lux Graves is a witchpop duo inspired by gothic aesthetic, dark synths and forests.
Their latest release Smoke and Mirrors Resurrection features an 8-minute video, with the original track leading, and the remix coming in at the second half. The visuals are stunning look at the forest and up close and personal landscape of New Zealand, with a storyline of dusk to dawn magic. It gives a gentle fantasy to the viewer of days in nature and nights in a coven. The coven that sticks together after one ends a relationship of gaslighting, as the lyrics of the song describe.
”This song was born as a recreation of one of our earlier songs. I've been really into ambient synths and droning sounds. I like the sad, yet, peaceful vibe. I took the original vocals and added an effects vocal to give the voice some far away sounds”, says producer/songwriter Courtney Newbold.
“Resurrecting old material and making it new again feels like the first step towards this new release cycle, I’m taking our previous experiences and emotions and rerouting them, revisiting, and transforming them.” “We have a bunch of new themes to explore but we wanted to bring the original Lux Graves concepts along for the ride.”
Lux Graves consists of Missi Moretz (Previously of Blue Ruin) and Courtney Newbold (Also of Anti Matter).
Influenced by the genre witch-house, low-fi production & sad girl aesthetics, the duo delivers distorted, raw renditions of human emotion through melodic vocals.
Lux Graves launched with the single Girl with a Gun. The track presents a lo-fi brand of melodic and atmospheric witch-house inspired electro. Then they snuck onto the online goth scene onto with the release of Sex & Superstitions as a debut EP. The tracks explore themes inspired by mental health, addiction and toxic relationships.
Next in the witchpop era is Resurrection. Starting with a remix of original material called Smoke and Mirrors Resurrection. Followed by an EP entitled Resurrection.
