Solid Land is Lucy Munro’s third single release that is out June 30th on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Deezer and more. This single is a part of her debut album which will be released on the 28th of July. At the recent Smokefree Rockquest, Lucy won the APRA Lyric Award for Solid Land meaning the song will be judged at the National Final later this year. Lucy worked with producer/engineer Rory Duncan on this project, commuting to and from Auckland since 2022, to record the album in sessions and work on other projects such as music videos and collaborations with notable artists, including local Auckland band, Pat’s Cave.
Solid Land is a vulnerable, thrilling and reflective pop ballad that explores the theme of self-destruction. The lyrics explore the idea of reflecting on why you are in a place where you don’t want to be, only to discover that the cause is rooted so deeply, it feels impossible to change.
Lucy Munro is a songwriter from Ōtautahi, Christchurch, New Zealand. Her music takes influence from pop; especially indie and alternative pop genres, however, each song on her upcoming album has its own independent style. Her lyrics take listeners on raw and emotional journeys, with Lucy being unafraid of breaking the societal norms of what is ‘appropriate’ to be written in the mainstream music industry. Her choir background can be found within the roots of her musical composition, using tight harmonies and classic chordal and melodic movement to create groundbreaking art, with her own unique sound. This gives space for her poetic lyrics to shine through, allowing viewers to think and take a personal interpretation most relevant to them.
In 2023, Lucy has already had success, releasing her first single Knotless (Imperfection) in late March, with thousands of listens globally. This was followed by her single This Would Be A Love Song in May that was featured on NZ Musician Hatchling Playlist, Muzic.net.nz, and 13th Floor. She is hoping to continue this success with her Solid Land, leading up to her album release. Solid Land takes inspiration from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Leith Ross, Gracie Abrams, Lana Del Rey and more, with Munro being likened to many of these artists.
In celebration of her single and upcoming album release, Lucy Munro is playing two all ages shows in both Auckland and Christchurch. Lucy’s first show, with local bands, Pat’s Cave and Fan Club, is on the 14th of July at the Underground (St Kevin’s Arcade, Auckland). This is followed by her Christchurch show on the 6th of August at A Rolling Stone (Central City, Christchurch).
