Today, The Beths — “one of the greatest indie-rock bands of their time” (Rolling Stone) — announce Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe), out Friday 15 September on Ivy League Records,
and present their new single, I Told You That I Was Afraid (Acoustic). Sprawling over two LPs,
Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe) is pressed on blue-green marble vinyl (an Australia and New Zealand exclusive) and is available to pre-order here.
Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe) expands upon the brilliance of The Beths’ chart topping 2022 album, “another collection of tunes that cements their status as one of the great guitar-pop bands of this present moment” (Stereogum), with 3 demos, 2 acoustic renditions, and the inclusion of previously-shared one-off singles A Real Thing and
Watching The Credits. The latter has already been deemed one of 2023’s best songs by Rolling Stone and Paste, who praised Watching The Credits as “a terrific, heat-seeking missile of glittering guitars and steadfast percussion work” that “speaks to how they endure as one of the most exciting rock bands in the world right now”.
The third studio album from The Beths, Expert In A Dying Field was released to a wealth of critical praise, and was named one of 2022’s best releases by the likes of Pitchfork, The Ringer, Stereogum and
more. Surrounding its release, The Beths were profiled by Rolling Stone, Document Journal, The Big Takeover and more, and made their U.S. television debut on CBS Saturday Morning plus performed a
Tiny Desk Concert for NPR. The Beths are undeniably one of the most exciting indie rock bands to emerge in recent memory.
Today, The Beths present the first taste of Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe) with a delightful acoustic version of I Told You That I Was Afraid.
"I didn't expect I Told You That I Was Afraid to be the song that worked best with just me and the acoustic guitar,” admits frontwoman Elizabeth Stokes. “Its lyrics are mostly jokes about fears I have, but they are real fears. I hope that they hold up with the spotlight on them."
The Beths will soon head to Europe for a series of select festivals
and headline dates. Shortly after, they will return to North America for a full, almost entirely sold-out tour, including dates supporting The National, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Postal Service.
Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe) is a gift to fans – both old and new – and cements The Beths’ applauded third record as a modern day classic.
