Blunt dog (with a lowercase “d”), is a quartet of indie folksters based between Tāmaki Makaurau & Te Whanganui-A-Tara. Having just taken their debut collection How is a dog so honest? off its collar and out to play, we feel the four are only at the beginning of their infamy. While singles like recipe-book singalong Eshy Biang Biang deliver heartfelt bursts of energy, perhaps it's the deep-cuts — like instrumental rock epic Rain Day Out or the gorgeous acoustic balladry of Rescinder — that shine brightest in this constellation.
Hot off an ecstatically received (and completely sold out) semi-secret release party late last month, Blunt dog are now plotting a second celebration of their release, this time at Cuba St’s San Fran with friends Awning & SGP.
Goose Garden is delighted to be showcasing three of the finest indie acts NZ has to offer on Thursday August 24th.
Awning is the latest project of NZ music veteran Christian Dimick (Recitals, Avant-Glass). A band that showcases their newest material, showing more restraint than past efforts. With a line-up full of old & new collaborators, the group is quickly becoming one of 2023's local acts to catch.
An acronym/alias for Papaioea grown artist Shannengeorgiapetersen (Fruit Juice Parade, Sports Dreams), SGP is a space for them to exhibit new and "extremely melancholic acoustic guitar music". Fans of Shannen's pensive works are likely to discover their new favourite songs.
