When Aotearoa went into lockdown a few years back we faced the possibility of no live music. No tours, no gigs, nothing. It was horrifying. We are music lovers, but not just that, NZ music lovers.
And we couldn’t see a platform that allowed us to watch a performance, listen to the artist chat and enjoy their music and stories.
We have had some good stuff in the past that we all remember. Top of the pops, Jools Holland, RTR.
So, with all of that in our minds, a group of us set out to produce a show that would celebrate Aotearoa musicians, giving them a platform for established, and up and coming artists, to share their music and story with a bigger audience.
We spoke to music lovers, the labels, the independents, the music bodies and through all that discussion we landed on an online music show called Noise Control.
Season one is 10 episodes hosted by DJ duo The Katayanagi Twins, Rain & China and featuring ten incredible artists ranging across all music genres.
You will be able to rock out with MELODOWNZ and Emma Dilemma, chill with Muroki and Troy Kingi and everything in between with Paige, SWIDT, There’s a Tuesday, Coterie, CHAII and Riiki Reid.
Vishal Vasan Showrunner for Noise Control & Managing Director of W1 says, “What sets Noise Control apart is its dedication to unfiltered, raw live music. We believe that the magic of Aotearoa music lies in its authenticity and we want to share that.
Spark & Spotify then worked with the major labels of Universal, Warner, and Sony, as well as independent artists to create a diverse mix of talent to share with Aotearoa.
Vasan adds: “So, forget about grades and filters, and get ready for a thrilling ride filled with unforgettable performances, great segments, and still-to-be-discovered gems. Produced with a polished rawness that captures the true essence of Kiwi music, Noise Control is a must-watch for anyone who loves music.”
Noise Control is a collaboration between Spark and Spotify and made possible by Fish Entertainment (Production & Talent), AO Studios (Creative & Strategy), Stuff (Content Distribution) and W1 (Showrunner).
James Moore, Flying Fish Group Managing Director and Executive Producer says: We’ve always been passionate about NZ music, producing more than 500 music videos over the years, we used to be blessed with so many great shows to showcase NZ music, it feels like we need that again, so conceptually, out of lockdowns, Noise Control was born.
Filmed in front of a live audience as an in-studio music show, fans will have the chance to attend the inperson sessions at the Flying Fish Studios on Auckland’s, Ponsonby Road or watch the show OnDemand at stuff.co.nz.
