Big Fan Announces The First Intake Of Ignite For 2024

01 February 2024 - 0 Comments

After a huge year in 2023, celebrating their first birthday and facilitating a variety of initiatives for the community, Big Fan is kicking 2024 off by announcing the first intake of the year for Ignite. 2023 saw the commencement of Ignite – an exciting initiative designed to develop and engage rangatahi interested in the behind-the-scenes of the music industry.

The not-for-profit, multi-purpose music space located in Morningside, Tāmaki Makaurau offers three world class recording studios and a live music venue all under one roof. Their goal is to bring people together, to support the role of music in the betterment of people’s lives, and to foster the talents of musicians, songwriters and those behind the scenes at every level.

Ignite is dedicated to nurturing and empowering rangatahi with a passion for music and events through a free 8-week industry specific training programme. Ignite has a unique aim to teach rangatahi not only creativity within, but also the complimentary skills in support of the music industry, exposing them to the incredible breadth of career pathways and opportunities that exist within it.

The programme offers one on one mentoring from industry professionals across all streams, upskilling opportunities, hands on experience and the opportunity to apply the skills learnt to practice by producing truly authentic all ages shows – run by young people for young people, whilst creating key performance opportunities for emerging artists.

Covering three streams: Event Management, Event Production and Music Production, applications open on Thursday 1 February 2024 at 10am at
www.bigfan.co.nz and close on Sunday 18 February 2024 at 10pm. There is a total of 18 spots available.

The Event Management stream learns all about organising live music events, whilst the Event Production participants will learn skills in the technical delivery. The Event Management & Event Production stream participants will together organise and produce four events with local artists at the end of the programme with guidance from their mentors. The Music Production successful applicants will be matched with established music producers to produce a song and enhance their production and songwriting skills by the end of the programme.

Rangatahi between the ages of 15 and 18 years old who are citizens and residents based in Tāmaki Makaurau are eligible to apply. No prior experience needed, just a passion for music and events and interested in learning and new experiences.

“We believe in learning by doing. Ignite creates the space and invaluable opportunities to empower our rangatahi to put the skills learnt from the programme into action. They will not only learn industry-specific skills but also a lot of tangible skills to help set them up for whatever lies ahead.” says General Manager, Savina Fountain.
