Border Music New Releases

09 July 2010 - 0 Comments

Good morning everybody! It’s an exciting week as we welcome Pistol Youth onboard. Their fantastic debut album 'My Own Private Amsterdam' is out this coming week

PISTOL YOUTH –MY OWN PRIVATE AMSTERDAM

After eight years nonstop with his band Steriogram, a restless creative feeling was stirring within Bradley Hanan Carter. Reading about Ben Gibbard & The Postal Service, it inspired him to get together some friends and start his own long distance project across the internet with Anders Borgh the Swedish bassist, Michael Guy Chislett the Australian guitarist now playing for Chicago based band The Academy Is and Gavin Kerr the kiwi drummer. “My Own Private Amsterdam is engineered by Eric J (Weezer) & mixed by David Kahne (the Strokes, Matisyahu, Regina Spektor).  Already the band’s epic ‘Golden Girls’ video for ‘In My Eyes’ which was featured on Pitchfork Media, has had over 50,000 plays. Check it out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eqNaglgfHY

For Fans of: Weezer, All-American Rejects, Steriogram

The 13 track album was produced by Howard Benson whose most recent albums have included Seether, Three Days Grace, Daughtry and My Chemical Romance. Hawthorne Heights were previously signed to Victory records for many years and have had a number of interesting fall outs with the label over business practices and unpaid royalties. Earlier releases include the platinum certified “The Silence in Black and White' and the gold certified 'If Only You Were Lonely'. Overall past cumulative sales are approaching the 2 million mark.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – FUTURE JAZZ

For Fans of: Koop, Matthew Herbert Big Band, Natural Self

BORN RUFFIANS – SAY IT

If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album 'Red Yellow and Blue' was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, “Say It', would be the project they left school to finish — a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, that they’re in it for the long haul. Again teaming up with producer Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, Panda Bear, Owen Pallett), the Ruffians and co. holed up at Mississauga’s Metalworks studio and loosed the reins on their ambitions. The parts hang together, a clattering machine bonded by a combination of kinetic energy and unshakeable confidence.

For Fans of: Wolf Parade, Vampire Weekend, Modest Mouse

HOTEL COSTES PRESENTS SEUIL – CHAMAELEONIDAE

Seuil who has been part of the electronic world since 2006 delivers his first album 'Chamaeleonidae'. Following in the footsteps of the Hotel Costes présents tradition, he offers us an electronic musical journey across one hour and twenty minutes. A wide range of classical music skills like 10 years of playing piano, jazz and blues formation, as well as a few years of percussion gave Seuil the building blocks to work on his electronic music compositions. Seuil works some magic with the more downtempo grooves and jazzy atmospheres that fit with the environment of home listening.

For Fans of: Matthew Dear, Stephanie Pompougnac, Hotel Costes

NAT JOHNSON AND THE FIGUREHEADS – ROMAN RADIO

Nat Johnson is the former singer, songwriter and guitarist of Monkey Swallows the Universe - a Sheffield based five piece band who released two critically acclaimed albums earlier in the decade, toured the UK with Richard Hawley, the Long Blondes and Camera Obscura. Since the band split in 2008 Nat has embarked on what has so far proved to be a very fruitful solo career. With her debut album “Roman Radio' Nat has assembled a new backing band The Figureheads (featuring MSTU co-founder Kevin Gori, Chris Loftus of Fury of the Headteachers and Neil Piper of Champion Kickboxer).

For Fans of: The Smiths, The Pretenders, the Siddeleys

LEGEND – VALEDICTION

In today’s metal scene, most bands don't have the backbone needed to exhibit what real heavy music is all about. Detroit, Michigan's Legend isn't most bands. Fronted by Chad Ruhlig (ex-For the Fallen Dreams), Legend has no qualms calling themselves just what they are; Legendary. Legend now releases their new album titled 'Valediction' on Rise Records. 'Valediction' was recorded at Planet Z Studios in Hadley, MA with Zeuss (Hatebreed, The Acacia Strain) behind the boards.

For Fans of: The Acacia Strain, Every Avenue, As I Lay Dying
