PIKACHUNES ~ Pikachunes

Stripped back to bare essentials, a typical track features one or two synths, a 70's analog bass line, and a series of reverberated vocal harmonies, all driven by an atypical disco beat. - no unnecessary frills.MARTHA TILSTON ~ Lucy And The Wolves

Eighth studio album from the British Folk singer/songwriter Martha Tilston with a gloriously clear and seductive voice.  Throughout the album Martha expresses herself in her trademark, endearingly direct, poetic manner. The songs are exquisitely set, the musicianship is faultless: a mesh of violins, viola, cello, double bass and, unusually. trombone. For fans of: Joni Mitchell, Charlotte Greig & Vashti Bunyan

CASSANDRA’S EARS ~ The Cassandra’s Ears Story

In March 2010 - 80s’ Dunedin’s all girl pop-rock group - Cassandra’s Ears’ original masters were re-discovered after a chance encounter by Jan Hellriegel, founding member and songwriter in the band, so they had the tracks -taken from their two EPs: Private Wasteland and Your Estimation - re-mastered and put together in a very special digi-pack full of personal band memories and old photos and posters.  For fans of: Jan Hellriegel, Street Chant, Flying Nun…

DANNY & THE CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD ~ Streets Of Our Time

The music is a blend of old time, alt-country, acoustic folk, and Americana; Acoustic guitars strum, plucked banjos clank, pedal steel guitars cry and country-tinged female backing vocals soar, Danny’s vocals hold a touch of Dylan, the lyrics mostly bitter sweet tell tales heavy on nostalgia. For fans of: Fionn Regan, Bob Dylan & The Felice Brothers.

WILLARD GRANT CONSPIRACY ~ Paper Covers Stone

An album that sees band leader Robert Fisher and a bare-bones band revisit their back catalogue - 13-years worth - and rework an album’s worth of material in more low-fi style that than in which it was (generally) first released.  Recorded over a two day marathon that yielded a bucket full of songs. Played in a changing format of solo/duo/trio and quartet arrangements, the recordings reflect the living room feel of the band’s early recordings. The Aus/NZ edition features a bonus EP: Trunk In The Attic containing more songs recorded at the session, including some of Willard Grant Conspiracy’s finest compositions. For fans of: John Cale and Johnny Cash.

MEDESKI MARTIN & WOOD ~ The Radiolarian Series

An album project released in three instalments in 2008-2009. The three volumes in the series were first released as three separate albums; This CD packages the wildly eclectic individual Radiolarians instalments together over 2 discs. The songswere composed and then developed through a series of tours before recording the music in the studio. The band draws on influences from a number of musical traditions including funk, hip hop, trip hop and free jazz. For fans of: Ennio Morricone andavant-jazz musicians.

CHARLES DOUGLAS ~ Lives

Recordered in 1999. The album was released briefly before disappearing… until now!  What a back story! The sleeve notes tell the whole harrowing story of Charles Douglas life at the time of recording this albumProduced by Moe Tucker (of Velvet Underground fame) and produced by Ultra Vivid Scene'sKurt Ralske.12 tracks of fuzzy guitar rock, the sound, is very Velvet Underground, Douglas’ drawl is a near perfect Lou Reed but despite the lost decade, it never feels like a time capsule – it turns out one of the most refreshing alt-rock records of 2010 was made in the nineties and is finally getting its dues. For fans of: Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Television, The Strokes…
