Virtually unknown a year ago, BLACK RIVER DRIVE, roared out of the gates last year with their debut album PERFECT FLAWS. With a song writing sensibility drawing on a wide range of influences. BLACK RIVER DRIVE delivered crunching rock and roll that reveals deeper layers with every listen. Hitting the top 20 and managing to top the rock charts not once but twice the band have quickly secured themselves a place alongside NZ’s biggest rock bands.
New Zealand rock fans have embraced BLACK RIVER DRIVE from the beginning, with their song ‘Bullet for your Gun’ hitting #1 across all rock radio in New Zealand in February 2010 and maintaining the top spot for 5 weeks, toppling ACDC to get there. Their next single ‘Call The Doctor’ repeated the success of ‘Bullet...’, reaching #1 in November 2010 and again enjoying several weeks in that position. The band topped off an unbelievable 2010 by supporting Bon Jovi in Wellington in front of 40,000 rock fans.
And BLACK RIVER DRIVE embrace their fans – In the final days of recording PERFECT FLAWS, the band had a spare half day in the studio and decided to jam on some of the songs in a more relaxed acoustic setting. Sam Browne - “It was really just for fun, just to hear the songs in a different way and maybe share with our fans on facebook – we played through each song once in the studio and then hit ‘record’ and played it a second time. That was it – I did the vocals separately but all the instruments are just the four of us jamming at York St”. The band were surprised to find the songs came out sounding great, in spite of the lack of preparation and rehearsal. Initially gifting some tracks to Facebook fans as mp3s, the band decided to release all 5 songs in full CD quality as a limited release special edition of PERFECT FLAWS. BLACK RIVER DRIVE look forward to sharing the celebration with their friends and fans at Homegrown in Wellington on March 5th.
