Band & Musician News - Introducing Hayley Stewart

Hayley Stewart is a 26 year old singer/songwriter from Wellington, New Zealand. She has been performing professionally for 8 years and working for the past 7 years in an all-girl top Wellington covers group called Avidiva. In October 2013, Hayley was signed by global record label Starlight Records to a two year development deal focusing primarily on the US market. She is Starlight Record’s first Country artist.
Hayley's passion for music and dance started at the age of 3 when she asked her mother for a pair of "click-clack shoes" so she could dance around the house and make music with her feet. The "click-clack shoes" turned out to be a pair of $2 plastic sandals bought as a stocking filler for Christmas, but the noises that were created convinced everyone that Hayley was destined to tread the boards.
By the age of 5, the sandals were replaced by a pair of tap shoes and Hayley soon started performing at dancing competitions throughout New Zealand. Over the next 5 years, Hayley enrolled for classes in Singing, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Rhythmic Gymnastics, excelling in song and dance. It was that which led her to be cast in the role of "Dixie" in the Tennessee Williams stage-play "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" at the age of 9.
Hayley entered national song and dance competitions on numerous occasions and was twice a finalist in the PACANZ Young Performer of the Year. This was motivation enough for her to successfully audition for Wellington based performance troupe The Young New Zealander's. While a student at Chilton Saint James School, she became a member of the highly acclaimed Seraphim Choir.
After graduating, Hayley was cast in a guest role in the New Zealand television series "Karaoke High". The character of Mala Gubbins was specifically created for her. She has since been involved in a number of vocal trios including The Beat Girls and Avidiva and has gone on to create her own all girl group, The Hollywoods, who are in hot demand for shows throughout the country.
Hayley started writing songs at the age of 14 and finally found time to go into a recording studio earlier this year. "Cheap Motel" was a product of the first recording session and has since earned her many accolades including "Best Pop Song" from the LA based Akademia Music Awards.
