I was just reading this post with slight amusement, when I read your comment, blend. Is that really what people think punk is these days?! I suppose you mean bands like Simple Plan, Yellowcard, Blink 182, Sum41... oh why were they ever called 'punk'? Why yes I do, the giant corporate labels have told me this is punk, I will believe so until some suited up marketer tells me otherwise

'Twas a broad generalisation I know, but that is how we all tend to speak on this forum. I.e. all those attacking rap focus in on the "generalised" hip hop, instead, look to Jurassic 5, Kayne West, Common, The Roots etc. for the meaningful lyrics.

And as much as Biggie and Tupac get slapped for their "gangsta" lyrics by those less inclined to the smooth stylinings of hip hop... it's good stuff and there's meaning in there too, just wipe away the guns and weed smoke.

Pretty foolish thing to say... one song is called Jesus Walks, I think you'll find it hard to say the rest of his album makes him a god botherer.

I guess his new song about Sierra Leon and the persecution of Africans through the diamond trade shouldn't be counted either.

haha when i read the john safran quote it was in his voice in my head. how can you read that quote without his voice?

oh yeah and i dont think the rant is over my friend, you see people have different tastes in music depending on their personalities.
People who listen to rap obviously dont pay attention to the lyrics,..but then again if listening to death metal song (generalising here,sorry guys) you can hardly make out the lyrics anyway. Now i'm not saying death metal is as bad as rap, because we all know it's just not, i'm just saying that...well to stop being so hypocritcal

essential part of good music, a melody.

We all know that black people can sing, but now all they seem to want is a beat and some idiot talking over the top.
