New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Sun Oct 2, 2005 7:08 pm Howdy, I'm a music lover who's gonna be heading over to NZ next month and I thought I might be able to glean some street knowledge from y'all about the the good venues that I should maybe check out. I'd appreciate any tips you've got. |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Mon Oct 3, 2005 2:58 pm Oh, I'm into mostly rock but also hip hop and jazz so you could say I'll check out anything! Who're the good rock bands over there? Good Shirt, Elemeno P, Betchadupa? stuff like that's OK. I saw the mint chicks and they were awesome! |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Sun Oct 9, 2005 11:08 am If you click on gigs then the area you're in you'll find that there are a great many more than three venues in Welly. Some of them even recognise the symbiotic nature of the relationship between bands and venues and treat musos with a bit of respect (unless they're smelly hippies). Instead of sitting around bemoaning the "naxism" of a particular venue owner you might try shifting your arse and contacting some of the other venues. You might even get a gig or is that deep down your secret fear. I look forward to hearing from any bands that actually want to perform. Dave 021 508 755, KATIPO CAFE. |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Sun Oct 9, 2005 8:53 pm Not just trying. We ARE a venue. A little different to most in Welly (we have carpet and upholstered chairs) which frightens the faint of heart a bit but our regular performers love us with most taking away $300-$600 for an evenings fun. Pretty damn good by Welly standards, there aren't too many that can command more than that at any of the ordinary venues. |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Tue Oct 11, 2005 3:36 pm the Studio is an awesome venue, we do gigs there about once a month. aesoem lighting rig too. We are also available to do Pa and live sound for other bands and groups there if wanted. Our next "Rock Factory Night" - the next one is 17th November, "A Balls to the wall, Guitar Driven Rock Night" with These Four Walls, Miscreant, Alpine Fault and This Found Favour. I'm thinking of adding one more band... must match the November genre - who do you think it should be? Will be fun. This message was edited by dragonorchid on Tue Oct 11, 2005 3:38 pm. |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Tue Oct 11, 2005 3:52 pm COOL! sounds like a huge night. A five band bill is like a mini festival. Glad to hear that the studio is cool. Have you been to the Stage in Wellington? or Altitude in Hamilton? |

RE: New Zealand venues and bands. Posted: Wed Oct 12, 2005 11:57 am What styles of music do we have? Indie, alt. rock, experimental, punk, reggae, retro, metal, blues, you name it! Anything except smelly hippies with celtic drums and bad attitudes. |
