nah soz not me but i no a couple of peeps. Eva herd dat song i dnt know how it goes but it goes "i'ma emo kid sumfin sumfin and slit my throat" sumfin sumfin sumfin then in one of da versus it goes sumfin like "stole my sisters mascara now i'm grounded for a week (or was it a month) it was sumfin like that they said it was byt a guy named emo kid adam or sumfin like that.

'emo' started out as a genre offshoot to 'post punk'. there ya go.

the term 'emo' is short for the word 'emotional'. everyone is emotional, everyone is emo.

you can't fuckin say that "emo kids" are people that cut themselves. sorry that's just plain stupid. people who have issues and problems cut themselves. lumping them under some stupid stereotype doesn't help them out or banish them. it's just stupidity.

THERE. you obviously needed the reasons for validation of stupidity in this thread and here they are.

it is a useless discussion or debate or whatever you wanted it to be. someone said that this was to "probe and inlighten(sic)" but it is just being a pedantic anal probe and it is not ENLIGHTENING anyone.

There are more people than just 'emos' who cut themselves. That's the issue, not calling the person emo. Emo these days refers to a senseless and impractical fashion that the (music) media seems to pushing for all its worth.

Why not criticise someone who's emo? Maybe they might come to understand that you should get yourself noticed through actions that actually mean something rather than black clothes and excessive make-up.

To go back to the initial question of the thread, something along the lines of 'what have they ever done to you?'. NOTHING, but that's the thing. They generally sit there and whine about how sad they are. Why don't they get up and do something positive, fix the problem? In our society we have relatively little to be seriously depressed about. Losing a girlfriend of 2 weeks is nothing when compared to war and famine - but they don't get 'emo' about that...

'ttt_red_fluk' said they're against my religion, although this may be a bit excessive, he's onto a point. It's against a system of values that holds leading through actions and actively solving issues as being of highest importance.

I have found that 'emo' is the perfect expression for describing someone who never seeks to actually solve their problems and/or draws unnecessary attention to themselves through strange appearances/habits just to be noticed. And i will keep using the expression. Calling someone emo isn't gonna make them go slit their wrists - if that's what pushed them over the edge then there was already something seriously wrong and that needs to be addressed.

anyone who attempts suicide, or even talks seriously about it, needs help from a counsellor or other expert. These kinds of people are mentally unwell and it is not a cry for attention. Although a 'fake' attempt at suicide can by a cry for attention, like someone cutting their wrists without intent on dying but know it will gain others attention <lame>

i too agree with trixie, and just to repeat the argument...

it doesnt matter how much you guys discuss it, even if you say how much you 'care about how 'emo' kids are cutting themselves', unless you are actually doin something, then you are just wasting time...

plus, looking at this thread, its so full of prejudice, im sure those ellusive 'emo' kids you guys are so 'worried' about would be pissed off at you guys classifying them like that, so in fact, if anything, this thread is making the whole 'emo' issue worse because its developing prejudices...

i know i generalised emo kids as all trying really hard to look the same, but you guys generalising how emo kids are all suicidal is a whole different story

if you are worried about people cutting themselves, then worry about them... but if you really cared, you wudnt put it under a thread called 'emo kids.... discussion'

yes theres a but.. some emo kids i have meet are so self centered and have no respect for others but other emo's its like a new gang forming.. yeah sure ill let the suicide rate raise, they can all self mutilate them selves.. i dont know what fun they get out of cutting.. its probly like talking drugs for them i wouldn't know.. maybe emo could have nothing to do with the music they listen too.. it could just be a new word for suicidal teens, half of new zealand are just following the trends though... or the name calling of 'emo' could all be a jelousy thing.. and where did it originate? any why is it mainly young people classed as an 'emo'
