There's a plethora of "churches" around the world (mostly USA) who do all sorts of things to keep them in their church/sect/group/cult/flock of sheep. Even using tools such as guilt on weak and vulnerable people can be enough to keep people in line. Even the threat of "You will go to hell", the basis of the entire Christian religion is what keeps people in the church... sounds like a cult to me.

excuse me butting in on your philosophy session here...got mixed up looking for classifieds and can't help myself.. if you don't mind me saying so..i think the 1st question to answer is..does God exist ?
and then if so.. does God ask for or deserve religion?

the pratice of religion is very old and has effected the human race in many different negative and positive ways...but as for what it does for you on an individual basis,i guess you have to make it past the 1st question and then it would depend on your knowledge of any omnipotent being ,what is God's nature ? as to whether or not to worship this being and find out what religion does for you.
