Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 8:05 pm Every now and then i'm gonna add a interesting piece for yous, to enlarge your guys general knowledge span Every wandered why some religions are against eating pork? Well....years and years and years and years ago people in countries like India and so on, millions of people were dying from feral deseases that were coming from Pork foods. They told people to stop eating these foods in hopes of the death rate lowering but no one would listen. So they made "eating pork" against their religion, as that was the only way they could get people to stop eating it. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Sun Jul 30, 2006 12:32 pm I read an article in the dominion post today written by a woman who went to four different churches and wrote about them. Catholic and Methodist were as you would expect, boring and ritualistic as hell! And The Rock and Destony churches were filled with the 'outta your seat and praise the lord' stuff, where you were also expected to give large amounts of money to the church when it's obvious the ministers had not taken an oath of poverty what has religion got to offer people these days? Well, everyday life just doesn't seem to need it anymore, but, in times of need it is the churches people turn to. Weddings, funerals, tragedys, and disasters all see people turn to the churches for a sense of hope. If the church is doing anything, it does help people in times of need feel a new sense of hope. Personally, I cannot put my faith into something that is so vague, but when there is no where else to turn, why not? end. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:28 pm ^^^like destiny. The ministers wear branded clothes like Nike, so it makes me wonder how much of the collection money actually goes to good causes apart from themselves. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Mon Jul 31, 2006 8:55 am Actually. You're almost right salior. The part to the fact (of why they didn't eat pork) was because Pigs have a very unclean digestive system, which practically goes around their whole body. Pigs eat anything, Mud as well. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Mon Jul 31, 2006 2:14 pm Yea, humans eat pretty much anything too. Sheep stomachs. Cow hearts. Chicken necks. fish eggs. cats. dogs. whales. Ostriches. Kangaroos. Crocodiles. Donkeys. Monkeys. The maori's used to eat rats. Pigs are as intelligent as dogs. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:32 pm what religions are people in these forums? Me personally was brought up going to Catholic schools and churches. But I haven't been to church since I was year 8. I am baptized Catholic but i do not practice the Catholic faith anymore, let alone believe in it. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Mon Jul 31, 2006 10:47 pm last time was when i was 7....weird thing is tho....last year my band played 2 songs in a church, 'cause we did a lil schools tour around taupo and we played at a christian school with a church and honestly dude....from the moment i step foot into that place to the moment i left i had goose bumps. Even while setting up, sound checking, playin, unpacking had goose bumps. What made it cool was the lil kids were asking for our autographs hehe were like "um dude u do know who we are? a bunch of losers in a band who are shit musicians" lol n they still wanted it...was awwwwwwwwwwwesome |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Tue Aug 1, 2006 8:59 am I was bought up by a mum and dad who'd say "If you go Christian or Catholic, you will not be our son". But mainly, I don't believe in fairytales. If I did, i'd still think Santa, Toothfairy and the easter bunny would be real. |

RE: Sailor's interesting facts Posted: Tue Aug 1, 2006 9:55 am your folks sound pretty ignorant. but everyone has their own view on religion i guess. disowning someone because of their religion is pretty lame. Jesus was real, it has been proven, but all the stories that come along with him in the bible are pretty much made up or exaggerated to the extremes. |
