It's such a rad job, you get to see something the public don't see....the wiked performances the band do whilst you record them and you get to hang out with them and get to know them. It's fucken awesome handing them a finished product that sounds rad, woooo i love my job lol

SAE my man, it's a audio engineering school kinda, that's where i'm doin all my recording....bring bands in and do a song or 2 for them while i've got the studio time. I'm doin my diploma there

Good luck actually finding a job after you finish man. Pretty much you have to work for free for a few years to get a job, and you'll be lucky to even get that far (working for free). It's good knowledge to have for personal use, but a job - no way. 1 out of every 50 if not less would be lucky to make a career out of it.

there's quite a few places that are looking for audio and live sounding engineers, a couple of the guys in my class have already snapped up jobs and we don't finish the course til 3 months away. Yea the whole working for 18 months without being paid sucks but there's always PACE? you heard of it, man?

My understanding was the pace benefit was specifically for musicians? Grim has a point though I reckon its a fair point for ayone trying to make a living off music here... you need to have a day job as well -
the whole live sound thing it seems to me there are two tiers, froman outsiders view anyway. there's the guys like my brother who was surplus labour when needed by oceania and the like... where your job is just to do the extra grunt work... he did it on top of his day job for about 5 years and got some pay but mostly it was a free ticket to gigs.. I think the guys actually contracted to companies actually get good pay for it.. doesn't mean you'd be driving the soundboard though, our old bass player (from mk1 of Ishtar) did a course and went to work for Oceania- I heard once there they sussed out he was once a coffee machine repairman so he ended up setting up coffee machines at gigs and functions

If I was in training to be a sound engineer these days I would be keeping an eye out for sound work on fiml crews and the like too at the moment, even stuff like boom operator, those cats get around a grand a week
