I love HEAPS of non-metal... just for me, when you put really homoerotic chorses that belong in a stadium emo act instead of dark, powerful melodies, you move into kiddie mall-metal territory. For the record I'm a Slipknot fan, it's just I can only listen to half of every album because there's too much filler. Half of it is decent, solid, and heavy, the rest is fruity and whiny. They've done nothing original, DJ's, extra percussionists... all been done before. |

RE: SLIPKNOT & MACHINEHEAD REVIEWS - Please xx Posted: Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:08 pm luke chill out, we are all slipknot fans. that doesn't mean we can't analyse them with an un-bias point of view. you have such a 15-year-old narrow minded opinion of "they are flawless and f*ck anyone who disagrees". i love the bands that i love but i don't take offense if people critique them so long as they are not flat out hating for the sake of hating, which none of us are doing. |

RE: SLIPKNOT & MACHINEHEAD REVIEWS - Please xx Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 12:15 am Hmm yeah, i don't particularly like them that much aye. I mean they're catchy and all. but that's all that does it for me. I turned down the free ticket because i really wouldn't have been able to stand the crowd. I personally hate large shows... especially large metal shows... there's nothing worse than some sweaty dude in front of you with no shirt, throwing his hair in your eyes and mouth, and also wearing a backpack that never fails to jab you with something sharp inside it...while there is another sweaty dude behind you with a huge beard that's rubbing on your neck ....and then the drunk lanky over excited guy next to you that keeps yelling and cheering at nothing and puts his arms in the air... coincidentally his wet, sticky armpit is forced into your face....... just not into that whole buzz aye.... among other stuff that goes on at large shows. Pig Destroyer was freakin' awesome btw. Odiusembowel!!\m/ |

RE: SLIPKNOT & MACHINEHEAD REVIEWS - Please xx Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:09 am Heh yeah when I was 16 I thought it was awesome being thrown around in the pit, getting covered in other people's sweat, getting bruised and thrashing my neck... now I'm an old man I'm quite happy to stand at the sidelines and nod my head. Getting slammed up against some white trash guy's sweaty shirtless back isn't exactly what I'd call fun. |

RE: SLIPKNOT & MACHINEHEAD REVIEWS - Please xx Posted: Thu Nov 13, 2008 9:04 pm yea i can appreciate the whole not into the mosh scene....system of a down i saw twice at big day out and i wasn't even on my feet it was crazy. just moving in a swarm. one set started with prison song as i was entering the moshpit from the side and i just got picked up and surged in haha. live shows remind me of those epic battle scenes where the conquerer dude rarks up the troopers..leader, masses, uniformity, movement. sometimes you can get more enjoyment from taking in the sound on the sidelines though. hey i like heaps of music too from lots of genres... i'm surprised you do too, that's good. but i'm not gonna sit there while you call it "homoerotic" and think that's fine??!? that affects my listening pleasure so shut it quick. mate, music is about connecting with emotions and creating that energy. that energy is also what you get at live shows and i felt slipknot in auckland needed a bit more of that from the band members and the crowd. but you gotta give them credit, they're playing to hundreds of thousands of people all across the globe and they're probably really sick of their own songs by now (I know Dave Grohl is he said that at his concert a few years back too). But if you're right and it's gay and fruity, then hundreds of thousands of people are wrong, doh. Try listening to the cool timing and the clever change of riffs, pauses, prechorus etc. And so what if he IS crying in one song? that's only one song. jonathan davis did it in "daddy" too and he only played that song once ever live cos it was too painful. oh but wait, he's fruity too, oops. (insert koRn lyric: "we're not as good as you? f*** no we're better than you!") yea and it really annoys me when people talk crap bout slipknot or any other band for that matter. particularly i notice this amongst metal fans though.. like some schoolboy/metalhead stigma along the lines of "they're not hard enough for me cos i'm so tough cos he like actually sings some lines and doesn't just go raaaaaa and vomit blood" type crap. music evolves. slipknot evolve. subliminal verses was absolutely off the wall. that is one incredible album IMO. the creativity particularly with the guitars blew me away. the thought i had was "i could not do better myself"...and also IMO, if you're not doing better yourself, don't be negative about them. |

How the hell can my *OPINION* of a band affect your listening pleasure. Are you that easily led? You totally missed my point there geezer. The point was: I do like Slipknot, just they bust into fruity vocal melodies and it bugs me. If I want "Nice" I'll listen to Dido. If the melodies were dark and powerful I'd dig it, but they're not. They sound like stadium-emo bits and I don't like it. Simple as that. I'm sorry that makes your vagina itchy. Quote:But if you're right and it's gay and fruity, then hundreds of thousands of people are wrong, doh. Celine Dion sells out shows, should I go buy her CD's too? I don't follow the herd and never will. Clever change of riffs? For the most part they follow a fairly standard pop/rock structure. Cool timing? I'll stick to Tool thanks. Hey if you get a buzz off Slipknot then cool. Everybody feels something different when they hear music and it's nobody's place to tell other people what they should and shouldn't like. Taste is subjective. xOMF D0N'TCHOO FKKN JUDG3 ME3 Im T0Tally sIc and TwiZt3d!!!1x This message was edited by K.I.N.G on Tue Nov 25, 2008 10:15 am. |
