being a good solo guitarist isnt everything......if ur not in a good band it shows that the guitarist isnt complete.

Having seen Janick Gers live if anything I would say he is overrated. Listen to his work on Dickinson's 'Tattooed Millionaire' and tell me he is anything other than average. Adrian Smith and Dave Murray are both very good but nowhere near the upper echelon.

In any case there would be a thousand guitarists out there who could lay claim to best for one reason or another. Just not Janick.

Id like to take back my Niles Rogers listing, dunno why I included him he wasnt an all rounder but his timing and rhythm sense is perfect.
I downloaded a video of Micheal Angelo and theres a few insanely fast moves that he rips into..if anyones innerested youll need a file sharing program like Limewire or a Kazaa clone and just search for guitarists or guitar lessons etc. His picking hand action is beautiful to watch.

I went to the Joe Satriani gig last night, it was incredible. As far as guitar virtuoso's go you don't get better than him.

Well to answer the above question, The man was something else at his time in history. If you're familiar with what the styles were of most guitarists in that era compared to what Mr Hendrix was doing, you'd understand what was so good about him. And to quote Jeff Beck "When hendrix came along I thought I might as well become a bus conductor."

Hope that helps, also you could try listening to some of his material and then if you're brave enough try and play it

By the way Joe Satriani was brilliant on Saturday.
