I'm sick of all these DJs being called 'muscians'. All they do is steal other peoples and make it faster or slower and do the little chiky-chiky thing. Some of the people i know use record players to do that, and wreck the record and the player....anyhoo, i hate their dedesruction of music..........at bars and venues for parties and such the onwer hires a dj because they are cheaper than a band.......THEY'RE NOT EVEN MUSIC FOR CRIPES SAKE!!

Ive been saying that for years. Infact almost anyone involved with rap/hip hop is not a musician.

which is a real offensive crime and could lead them to juvenille.

rap/hip hop is not even music. its a lifestyle or whatever. theres already a discussion going against it around here

Well, quite possibly, however the same applies across the entire Music business, which is not about to surrender Bandwagonism, croynisim, and Lowest Common Denominatior music any time soon.
singling out DJ's and Rappers is of no value, without holding the same standerd to any "performer".
Is a turntable a musicial instrument? is programming a computer/drum machine of the like "value" to knowing 83 chords on guitar?
If its "cheating" then look at modern recording process, is Pro tools or Cool Edit any different to what a DJ does?
no Im not A "DJ" or have any interest in attending a venue that hosts one, the idea of paying money to watch someone put records on a turntable strikes me as one of the more ludicris ways for people to spend money, im just venturing that its a extremely Foolhardy call to immeadtly write off entire generes, or instrumentation as deficent or worthless.

Yeah, but its true. Most rap is not music. Just a simple reptitive drum beat with about 3 or 4 keybord notes repeating through out.

Its true, cant argue with that.

Well Grim, I can.
Most is not good music, that applies to all genres, including Metal.
Its still music, just not the stuff we get inspired from, or wish to participate in, or communicate with.
Can i humbly suggest you listen to Public Enemey?
Truly an inspiring and educating band.
Even if the genre their associated with holds very little other appeal to me.
Simply, life would be poorer without the Polemic/Message of people like Carlton Ridentour.
In NZ, how about what Jody Lloyd has been up too? May not be your or I's thing, but isnt it good that someone is expressing their "message/belief", even if the Format aint our cuppa?
And Good luck with finding a suitable Bass player.

im not into the whole dj scene but not all dj's just copy music and mess it around.

check out dj shadow. hes a bloody brilliant musician.

his tracks mongrel meets his maker, fixed income, and organ donor, id recommend for you to have a listen to.

im not usually into this type of music but i think that a true dj will know the music as a musician rather than just be a guy that sticks sounds together.

Did it ever cross your mind that there are Techno Dj's like Dj Sammy......Technoe Dj's dont mix stuff up{well some do!} but some others actually put different elements together to bring and create a new sound!!

I for sho know what im talkn about ma older bro who's 22 knows alot ........

im not into the whole dj scene either, but believe it or not it can actually be a hard skill to master, mixing the songs together and adding different beats...
i really do hate it when they take a perfectly good classic song and twist it though...eg: last nite i was in the outback and i heard guns'n'roses "Sweet Child of Mine" mixed in with a stupid pop beat that overshadowed it completly....that REALLY annoyed me.

As for the whole "djs arent muscicians" debate, i have mixed feelings...yes they dont write or compose their own music, but they produce it and have really good knowledge about it.
you could argue that dj's arent muscicians because they have their little computers and turntables for the effects, but guitarists have amps, wah-wahs, wammy bars to make effects...i know how BAD it is of me to make a comparison of djs and guitarists but im just trying to get my point across!!
but at the end of the day, i think that most djs suck, and there are only a select few that actually know wat they are doing and know their music.
