OK .. just to offer my two cents ..

i believe NZ music and NZ bands are as good as anywhere in the world.
we have some of the most creative talent, and some of the highest quality musicians coming out of this country that the world has ever seen.

Hayley Westenra is a very good example of this. There is also another girl who went to the same school as Hayley who is following in the same footsteps.
NZ seems to have made an impression with hiphop in the australian market, and obviously Steriogram have something that American bands dont - otherwise they wouldn't have been signed by capital records and taken overseas in a big hurry.

We also have some of the most incredible metal and punk bands around its just that its a very underground scene, and not "commercial" as some may see it.

all in all - i believe that nz has alot of talent, and we should be supporting it, not downing it.

i mayb in oz but im always 1st 2 no the what musics in nz coz its awesome n as a kiwi myself i think we should b gettin bhind our artists

hey i reckon its good how we see so many kiwi bands around not all of its tht good and wer nt relly known outside nz apart frm steriogram and blindspott bt i gess wer not the bigest country ay ? id have 2 agree with the poo poo

yeah we arent the biggest country. some still think were part of the oz even till now which is really dumb, but whats even dumber is the amount of attention oz bands are gettin compared to us...

but it wwould be kinda harder for new zealand bands/artists to get recognized, so we cant really blame them for being "barely dicovered"

I think it's easier for a NZ band to get recognised than bands from other countries. Imagine how many other bands you'd have to compete with if you were from America? It would be a lot harder to be noticed with thousands of other bands trying to do the same thing.

Besides, it's really up to the band/artist to do some ground work which would help with them being recognised - there's more to being a band than just playing the odd gig at your local pub.

If a band is 'underground', they would still be recognised - no matter how large (or small) their fan base may be. You don't have to be a mainstream band with songs on the charts to be recognised.

yeah but for a new zealand band/artist to get a break would be even harder cause americans would look at the guys from america first and as you said there are lots, so it would be harder for them to get a break.
