RE: i eat meat Posted: Mon May 1, 2006 7:58 pm Quote:the two of you have hit the target in your earlier posts.meaning who? there have been three dominant posters in this forum. may I ask how old you are? Because you say you've been a vege for 17 years. Was this starting from a young age or did you stop eating meat at an older age? The reason I ask is I feel if I stopped eating meat now (at the age of 1 I would not feel as good as someone who hasn't been eating meat for a number of years. I would expect my body to take some time to adjust without meat. And my point is that you would cope well without meat if you hadn't eaten it all your life. |

RE: i eat meat Posted: Tue May 2, 2006 9:57 pm If there's one thing that really annoys me in forums like this is people who post long posts like foal did, then get given a post in reply, but never reply or come back with a thoughtful answer. It's like they can't be bothered thinking anymore. In future, if you cannot be bothered from the start, keep your mouth shut! This message was edited by johnsoncraigsbc on Tue May 2, 2006 9:57 pm. |

RE: i eat meat Posted: Tue May 2, 2006 10:26 pm crikey, told off for tardiness in reply.Thats never happened before. Sorry I have a day-job,I am Married, 5 Kids, and 4 Bands. so I guess this wasn't quite at the top of to do list. Lectures. Um, It seems this is the way I post. Its not intentional. You 2 Clearly the two I answered above, re: out of sight/out of mind, and supposed Health benefits. 17 years. Yes I suspect I am well older than the vast majority of this site.I seriously dispute the agruement that adolescents will suffer by sans Meat diet. there is a lot of infomation to support a Vegetarian diet, I think what is required is a willingness to search for reliable infomation and a basic compassion for other life forms. The Enviromental aspect cannot be understated either, simply your are acting far more responsibly by endorsing a Vege diet. Also consider the Have vs. Have not position, in that the "Third World" starves whilst raising the flesh you so fancifully fry. To quote a slightly more famous Vegetarian. |

RE: i eat meat Posted: Wed May 3, 2006 1:39 pm Dominant Posters. I did not use that term, I was just indicating that two of you had relevant comments that I would espouse apon. 5 Kids 4 Bands yes time management is important. However not nearly as important as an understanding and caring Wife. Basic Compassion ah, its part of it yes. I think I am unable to seperate the Steak from the Cow, you know? This may be childish, but its not a thought process I can beat. I like Animals, why would I kill 'em and eat 'em? Enviromental Impact of Meat Diet this is to do with Energy or Productive Use of Land. the "value" of farming space of Vege's versus the "value" of Cattle/Pigs. The water content cannot be underestimated to here, ask anyone in Canterbury... If you believe in Greenhouse Gases or Co2 emmission then Meat based diet plays a large part in this. the Amazon would be an example of this, also be aware that this arguement has been hi-jacked by the big Corps, ie:there growing Soya Beans, not cattle, but those beans are for cattle feed... Adolescent Vege as above, 5 Kids and doing well...check with your GP, most Doctors now have broken the shackles of following whatever the Beef and Lamb board tell 'em. Heh... |

RE: i eat meat Posted: Thu May 4, 2006 7:57 pm Give up completetly, time to adjust... Yeah Defiently JCBC, anyone advocating an immeadiate "Road To Damscus" type conversion is being irrisponsible. I am saying it is possible, I am just suggesting you should get reasonable advice, ie your GP, not some foolish old man on the Internet. Things to consider are your "natural body weight", the time of year (what veges are in season), do you have an allergies, and can you cook cos your going to need too. It pays to "organize" your local Supermarket, ie demand a Vegetarian selection, items like Falafel, Tofu, Tofu Luncheon/Sausages,Vegetable Stock for Soup, Soya Milk etc. Look at recipe books , there is good selection of Vege ones out there, check SAFE website, Sanaterium, VEGANZ... As with all things get a variety of sources before making a decision. |

RE: i eat meat Posted: Thu May 4, 2006 9:57 pm I agree that a basic compassion for other life forms is a good reason for going vegetarian. Compare this to the arguments against vegetarianism: Quote:soy milk tastes rank!Being vegetarian is a healthy way to live - the problem is if people who live on steak and chips suddenly cut out the steak, they're gonna be screwed, health-wise. But I don't see why eating a balanced flesh-free diet should take more effort than eating meat. It just requires an awareness of what you're eating. Being vegetarian/vegan is enviromentally responsible because it is MUCH more productive and economical to use land to grow crops rather than feed cows. You know, statistics like 1 acre of land can feed one cow for a year but grow 2 tonnes of wheat (I made that up, but you get the idea). If you are still think you want to eat meat, read this site: http://www.flex.com/~jai/articles/101.html But if it's just yourself you care about, remember "Vegetarians have a 20% lower rate of mortality from all causes" |
