Festival goers are being put on notice - Fortune Festival is coming to Dunedin! Next April will see a powerhouse lineup of New Zealand music hit Dunedin’s University Oval as local and international promoters bring together the first large scale outdoor festival Dunedin has seen in… well far too long.
The first announcement of acts is a who’s who of New Zealand music with headliners Salmonella Dub joined by Tiki Taane and Laughton Kora, Kiwi soul sensation TEEKS, indie-pop star Gin Wigmore, and Dunedin’s own Nadia Reid & her band. With many more supporting acts spread throughout the day and across multiple stages the festival promises a day/nighter of entertainment that looks to get even better with another massive act being slated for January’s second lineup announcement.
Fortune Festival is the result of international event promoters Live Nation and local event promoter Common People Entertainment joining forces with Dunedin Venues Management to bring this one day event to a ground more commonly known for one day cricket.
“We are absolutely stoked to be bringing an amazing lineup of iconic kiwi musicians to Dunedin,” says Jason Schroeder, festival organiser. “We know the city and the wider region have been aching for a new large-scale event and we’re ready to make it happen.”
"We couldn’t be more excited to bring a major new festival to Dunedin with some great local partners,” says Mike Ross of Live Nation. “We’ve been lucky enough to stage a number of concerts at Forsyth Barr Stadium in the past, and Fortune Festival feels like the perfect way to build on this, as a new, annual day and night of entertainment for the city.”
The event features several zones and stages set to turn the University Oval’s wicket from a one-hit-wonder into a festival offering Dunedin its own big day out.
“With COVID wreaking havoc on the live music industry, Dunedin itself has lost many large-scale events and we saw the need to shine a light at the end of the tunnel,” says Terry Davies, CEO of Dunedin Venues Management. “It has come together amazingly with a truly unique event held on a special ground with a lineup of acts that will bring new energy to the city.”
