Swallow the Rat are a restless bunch. If they are going to release something, there always has to be a new angle, a new approach. For this one they have gone a little overboard, like some kids overdosing on brightly coloured lollies with the release of their newest single, Other Rooms Feat. Yuko Miyoshi (Memory Foam).
A collaboration with Miyoshi with a whole verse in rapid fire Japanese - check! An in-the-red mix/sonic hellscape by Oliver Ackermann of A Place to Bury Strangers/Death by Audio notoriety, straight out of Queens NYC - check! High quality/hand-stamped/limited run lathe cut 7” by Karekare dub scientist Josh Lion at Downbeat Mastering - check!
Other Rooms is a garage-psych barnstormer with half remembered images from a scorched landscape. Miyoshi obliterates the second half of the tune with an intense verse taking the subject matter in a whole new direction; telling the story of someone trapped in a room, trying to escape but finding the next room is perhaps worse.
Other Rooms will be released on the 11th of November with an accompanying self produced video, shot and edited by the band’s own Hayden Fritchley and starring Miyoshi in a series of strobed out dream sequences. Copies of the 7” are available from Bandcamp, Flying Out and Real Groovy from November 25th, 2022.
Catch Swallow the Rat on tour through Nov/Dec, co-headlining with the amazing psych/robot/metal/kraut two-piece Ripship!
