It is with great excitement that The New Things announce a tour of Aotearoa, supported by the New Zealand Music Commission’s Aotearoa Touring Programme, to promote their EP Just For You.
The New Things are, as the name tells you, a new thing on the Aotearoa music scene. The band is touring nationally with six dates across te motu.
The Ironic T-Shirt Tour is named from a line in their indie-pop hit single Vintage Nerd which rose to No1 on bFM last year.
“Ironic T-Shirts became quite hip and, like me, they can be easily misunderstood,” says Tina, writer, vocalist and guitarist. “Wear what you like to the gigs, but, by all means put on your most ironic t-shirt if you have one! Come out and be entertained.”
An important show during the tour is the all-ages show at Underground on 21 July in Auckland. The New Things will be hosted by Sweet Treats All Sorts, who has organised a line-up with Bliss and Kliffs. “Sweet Treats All Sorts aims to empower youth to get acquainted with creative self-expression through performing arts and to develop critical life skills,” says Justin.
The New Things are Tina McIvor, Jason Tamihana-Bryce, Dwayne Diack, Dave Morgan and Sarah Laing. The Ironic T-Shirt national tour is:
20 July - Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, Whammy Bar
Sweet Treat Punx with Offal Pit Stiletto and Chasing South

Vintage Nerd hit No1 on bFM in 2022. Radio New Zealand music reviewer, Grant Smithies, called it "ace rickety guitar pop like The Raincoats and Look Blue Go Purple" with an "endearing spindliness".
In 2022,The New Things released two EPs Pink Chocolate and Politics.
