The popular BBQ and rock music event, Smoke, is set to return in 2024 with an all-star lineup of New Zealand’s finest rock talent. The festival will expand to Tauranga for the first time, while Christchurch will see the event return for its third year.
The highly anticipated Smoke Brews, Bands & BBQs festival, known for blending great music with mouthwatering BBQ and craft brews, will bring two iconic Kiwi rock bands, Head Like A Hole and Tadpole, to headline the event in both cities.
Head Like A Hole, the infamous pioneers of New Zealand rock, formed in 1990 and have made a name for themselves as the “undomesticated animal of NZ rock.” The group, known for their gritty anthems and raucous stage presence, will be lighting up the stage with their high-energy performance. Fans can expect classics like Hole, Cornbag, and I'm on Fire to shake up the festival grounds.
Joining them is the legendary Tadpole, returning to the stage for the first time in years. The triple-platinum selling band took New Zealand by storm in the early 2000's with hits such as Blind, For Me, and Backdoor. Their comeback is set to be one of the most talked-about performances of the year.
Supporting the headliners is a stellar lineup of local rock talent:
- The Dead Circus, a Stone Temple Pilots tribute act, will bring their incredible renditions of the American grunge legends’ most iconic songs to both events.
- Tauranga: Rock fans will enjoy performances from Pieces of Molly and Rehaab on November 23rd at Soper Reserve.
- Christchurch: On December 14th, Volts, Imperial April, and Sandfly will take the stage at Hagley Park alongside the headliners.
The event will run from 2 PM to 10 PM in both cities, giving attendees hours of live music, BBQ, and brews.
Smoke Expands to Tauranga for the First Time
Having established itself as a staple in Christchurch’s summer calendar, 2024 marks the first year that Smoke will head to Tauranga, expanding its reach and bringing the festival’s unique combination of bands, brews, and BBQ to the Bay of Plenty.
“We’re thrilled to bring such a strong Kiwi lineup to both Tauranga and Christchurch this year,” said Richie from Smoke. “It’s going to be an epic showcase of rock talent, and we can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”
What to Expect
In addition to the incredible music lineup, festival-goers will be treated to a wide selection of BBQ dishes, prepared by some of the country’s top vendors. From slow-cooked brisket to melt-in-your-mouth ribs and tasty sides, the food promises to be just as memorable as the music. Paired with a diverse range of craft beers, ciders, and wines, it’s the perfect recipe for a great summer day out with friends and family.
Richie further commented, "We’ve curated the perfect mix of great food, drinks, and rock ‘n’ roll, creating an unforgettable day for our attendees. Whether you’re in Tauranga or Christchurch, Smoke is the event you don’t want to miss."
