As New Year’s Eve fast approaches, Northern Lights artists have been making waves across the New Zealand musical landscape reaffirming Northern Lights New Years Eve Festival at Pakari Beach as the place to see in 2012.
Northern Lights headliner and Master of Ceremonies Tiki Taane has had an eventful year to say the least. 2011 saw the release of his NZ #1 album In The World Of Light and his song ‘My Lion’ being broadcast to millions after it was featured in the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup. Most recently Tiki gave an incredibly memorable performance at the 2011 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards where he also took away three awards on the night including Best Male Artist, Best Electronic Album and Best Maori Album. With a special re-release of In The World Of Light now in stores and another album in the works, 2012 is bound to be another huge year for one of NZ’s favourite sons.
Another artist making his mark this year has been DJ and producer Bulletproof. After winning a Tui in 2010 for Best Electronic Album, Bulletproof kicked off the year by being signed by EMI Music and releasing his best work to date, Dub Me Crazy. The album, released in September went straight into the NZ album chart at #7 and with lead single ‘Dub Me Crazy featuring Jessie G’ becoming one of the anthems of of 2012. He also worked with DJs on the rise and fellow Northern Lights performers MayaVanya. These talented sisters have already made a mark on the world of international dance music beating over 3500 competitors from across the globe to win the prestigious Next Generation DJ Competition in 2010. They have recently released their first single and music video, ‘Hot Nights’, which is destined to dominate radio airwaves across the hot kiwi summer.
Two other Northern Lights performers who have released extraordinary work in 2011 are P Money and Concord Dawn. Prolific DJ and producer P Money is no stranger to New Zealand music audiences. He has #1 hit singles, hugely successful albums and has produced huge hits for the likes of Scribe, David Dallas & more. He most recently released a digital E.P for The Disco 3, a new collaborative effort between himself and DJ Dan Aux. Likewise Vienna-based kiwi electronic act Concord Dawn followed up the VNZMA nominated album The Enemy Within with the critically praised digital E.P A Race To Zero. Seeing both of these extraordinary talents live sets is bound to be one of the many highlights of a Northern Lights New Years Eve experience.
Northern Lights will take place on a site near the blissfully beautiful Pakiri Beach (one hour north of Auckland) and also doubles as one of the official camping grounds for Highlife NYE Experience. As well as showcasing top class entertainment on the days either side of December 31st, the R18 campground provides campers with a selection of high quality food and bar facilities, buses to and from Highlife on New Year’s Eve plus a special powder room for the ladies. All this and more just five minutes away from one of New Zealand’s most picturesque beaches.
