Gig & Concert News - Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys are on their way back to Auckland!

25 September 2012 - 0 Comments

Twelve time Grammy Music Award winner and country music icon Emmylou Harris will grace the New Zealand stage once again this November.

Following on from the Australian leg of her 2012 tour with band the Red Dirt Boys, Emmylou promises to perform selections from her wealth of original material as well as beautiful interpretations of some of music history’s most classic songs.

Forty years into her impressive career, the Country Music Hall Of Fame inductee maintains her passion for her craft and endeavours to produce new offerings and breathtaking performances for her loyal fans.

A true first lady of country, Emmylou Harris has written and produced more than 20 full length albums since the 1960s and appeared on many, many more.

Well known for her work with the late Gram Parsons (Grievous Angel and Sleepless Nights), Harris has often spoken about her fond memories of that time, citing Parsons as a true inspiration and expressing what a deep shock it was to have lost him from her life.

She has enjoyed chart success with #1 hit singles “Together Again”, “Sweet Dreams”, “Two More Bottles Of Wine”, “To Know Him Is To Love Him” and is lovingly remembered for her early efforts with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Roy Orbison, to name a few. In 2006, Harris released an album with Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits titled All The Roadrunning, which peaked at #19 on the NZ Album Chart.

Opening the celebrations on the evening are local troubadours and performers from famed Auckland country music event The Gunslingers Ball. Featuring an array of well-known artists from bands The Bads and The Grifters, as well as Tami Neilson, the group will perform collaborations of their combined original material (described in the NZ Herald as “a full-blown musical mash-up of everything from alt-country and folk to cowboy punk and thigh-slapping blues.”)

Another first for the evening is the venue. When Emmylou Harris performs at Vector Arena on November 18th , it will mark the debut of a new seating format for the Arena, known as “Vector Arena Theatre Mode”. This innovative, multiple fit-to-scale capacity plan cleverly utilizes moveable curtains and stage placement to scale back the proportions of the Arena for audiences of 1500-3000.  The beauty of this new mode is that it creates the sort of cozy ballroom/theatre feel that most becomes an artist such as Emmylou Harris.

Tickets for Emmylou Harris and Her Red Dirt Boys with members of The Gunslingers Ball are sure to be in hot demand! Come and experience country music’s finest and the new Theatre Mode at Vector Arena in what can only be a night to remember.

“Above all it was That Voice...the forlorn quiver of Harris’ soprano still beguiled throughout.” (Emmylou’s performance at Auckland’s Civic Theatre 2003) – NZ Herald
