Auckland City Limits
is taking a step into the future by starting its fans out early and allowing
kids under ten free entry with ticketed adults to the festival at Western
Springs on 19 March.
And while kids are welcome in all corners of the festival, there will be a
special space inside Auckland City Limits where kids and their adults can hang
for some small-sized fun and rock ’n’ roll.
“We want to see the next generation of music lovers getting a free taste of
what an amazing festival this is” says promoter Campbell Smith.
“We’re catering to that with free entry and Auckland Kiddie Limits – their very
own mini-festival within a festival.”
Auckland Kiddie Limits is not a drop-off area. Kids and caregivers are
encouraged to enjoy the space together. However to keep everyone together, all
little ones will be registered so no one gets lost.
It has a musical and entertainment line-up curated by the legendary Finn,
recently retired from the 95bFM kids show, plus loads of fun activities inside
a secure space.
“Our line-up features musicians Kath Bee, APRA 2015 Children's Music prize-winner
Levity Beet, Mr Roberelli and a session of mad live storytelling of Roald
Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes by Flaxworks. We also have a performance by up and
coming band Sparrow from Auckland’s School of Rock,” says Finn.
“We’ve found a ton of other cool stuff to make Kiddie Limits a fun place to
hang out,” he adds.
Kiddie Limits activities include music instrument making, hip-hop workshops
with Serato, kids karaoke, punk rock hairdos, temporary tattoos by Inkalittle,
a giant art wall and much much more.
Auckland Libraries are setting up a beanie bros reading area and a kid’s tech
maker zone for some sound exploration fun.
“Kiddie Limits will have its own specialized food vendors, including coffee for
the parents, and a quiet space and changing facility for our smallest punters,”
says Finn.
Auckland Kiddie Limits is situated in the village green space in MOTAT,
accessed only from within the music festival’s Western Springs site.
It opens with the main gates at 11am and will run until 5pm – at which time
some rock ’n’ roll mums and dads can use pass-outs to get the kids home to
grandma before coming back for the festival headliners, who play through to
11pm.
A special competition has been launched on the Auckland City Limits website
today – kids can win a pair of tickets for their adult friends by singing
something from their favourite City Limits artist and uploading to FaceBook,
Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtags #kiddiekaraoke #aclfestnz
