As the music television market heads into an interesting awaiting the launch of MTV New Zealand, C4 appears to be undertaking a bit of spring cleaning, set to drop ts foundation specialist music programmes.
After nearly three years and 144 shows each, the individually hosted music shows Amp'd, Intellectual Property, Flashbacks, Sound Lab, Holla Hour and the Saturday night drop-in show Freestyle are all to be dropped.
Station Manager Andrew Szusterman says retiring the shows does not indicate the retiring of entire genres, however.
"C4 is dedicated to covering all styles of music relevant to and appreciated by viewers. Changes at the channel are simply indicative of C4's prerogative to change and refresh the way in which these genres are represented.
"When we started the channel in 2003, things were different. Hip hop was reigning the world, Eminem was ruler of the universe, Linkin Park and Sum 41 were making up the playlist for Amp'd. That no longer is the case, the world of music has changed again, the way our audience uses music and our specialist shows no longer represent what is happening musically in the world and more importantly New Zealand."
