Music News - The Edge mounts nationwide search for New Zealand's first boyband

14 August 2006 - 0 Comments

The Edge radio station are excited to announce their nationwide search for hot new talent to make up the first ever Kiwi Boyband and take them and their music to number one on the New Zealand charts.

Throughout the month of August, The Edge will be placing the call out to hopeful young men with a dream to audition for a spot in a five-piece vocal band. The winning contestants will win no big prize, major recording deal or guarantee of fame, just the chance to record a hit single, $500 cash, a 5th share in a 1994 Mazda Bongo van and enjoy a fleeting moment in the ‘pop music’ limelight.

An expert panel of music Boy Scouts will be scouring the length of New Zealand from August 26 - 31 to find the five crucial ingredients to an ‘all male hit machine’: Hot Boy, Bad Boy, Mummy’s Boy, Fat Boy and Gay Boy.

Each contestant will be videoed and their audition put online. The Edge expert panel will labour over the auditions and select their own Top 10, who will progress to the final stage of the competition and attend Band Camp in September.

An intense week of Band Camp training will follow that will include choreography, singing lessons, styling, grooming and media training to prepare the Top 10 for the head-to-head competition week where the public of New Zealand will vote off one hopeful a day and reveal our very first boy band.

The band will then spend a week recording with one of the country’s most esteemed music producers creating their debut single to be released, complete with music video, to the public of New Zealand.

Our boys will then have to complete a heavy promotional schedule that could see them travelling the length of the country, getting face-to-face with the fans that voted them in. The week’s promotional activities will culminate with the band’s career peak – a live opening performance on October 18 at the music industry’s night-of-nights, the New Zealand Music Awards.

Audition details can be found at www.theedge.co.nz or by listening in to The Edge Morning Madhouse from Monday, August 14.

Boy band - no fame, no fortune – just a number one song…maybe
