The judging process has been completed for this year’s APRA Silver Scroll Award.
The five finalists, chosen by an anonymous panel of judges, will be announced next Wednesday 30 August.
More than a hundred entries were submitted by APRA members for the prestigious song- writing award, which will be presented at an exclusive event at the Auckland Town Hall on 20 September.
Commercial success is not a consideration for the judges.
“This years entries posed a considerable challenge for the judges,” says Ant Healey APRA’s Director of NZ Operations.
“The quality of the songs received is proof that NZ song writing talent continues to diversify and mature. The finalist picks include a few surprises and we can’t wait to announce them at the end of this month and sing their praises at the Silver Scroll Awards in September.”
Four other awards will be presented at the 2006 APRA Silver Scroll Awards -
The Most Performed Work Overseas Award
The Most Performed Work in New Zealand Award
The SOUNZ Contemporary Award, recognising creative excellence by a NZ composer
The APRA Maioha Award presented for the best Maori song of the year.
