Congratulations to 4-piece alternative Auckland rockers White Noise Mafia, who have won the grand prize in the 2020 Ding Dong Lounge Bands Competition on Saturday night.
Chris Webb, vocalist and rhythm guitarist of White Noise Mafia describes the whole experience as surreal. "Our first gig as a band was the preliminary round [of the competition] where we came to finally perform as a band for the first time" says Chris. "We are so grateful for everyone who came along to support us, as winning this means the world to us, and it is a springboard for us to start our careers in music. It's been awesome."
White Noise Mafia take home an impressive prize pack, consisting of studio single recording time with Dave Rhodes Productions, music video production with Francis Wheeler of SIS Studios, live multi camera video, $500 cash from Ding Dong Lounge, a Real Groovy $200 voucher, a print package from Pressprint, a photography package from Zed Pics, and free Dead Witch venue hire for their next single / video release party.
Dave Rhodes who was a judge at the grand final of the competition and will be recording their single says "I was blown away by White Noise Mafia's energy and stage presence. These guys own the stage and the crowd like they've been playing for years, I can't believe they only formed this year!". White Noise Mafia are influenced by bands such as Linkin Park, Blindspott, Bring Me The Horizon and Slipknot, but Dave says the band breathe new life into modern rock, where other bands in the genre can sometimes sound safe and generic. "I can't wait to get these guys in the studio and record their debut single!" says Dave.
Francis Wheeler of SIS Studios was also a judge and will be directing the music video for White Noise Mafia's single. "This competition has been incredible to be a part of, so many super strong acts and performances made it really difficult to judge but I am stoked with how many awesome bands we were able to get exposed to" says Francis. "I’m extremely excited to capture and showcase the visual energy that White Noise Mafia puts out there and am looking forward to working with them on this music video!"
Young up-and-comers Glass Throne took out second place. They also receive a prize pack, consisting of live multi camera video, $200 cash from Ding Dong Lounge and a Real Groovy $100 voucher.
