For You comes as a timely reminder about the importance of manaakitanga and recognising and enhancing the mana of those around you.
“It is a song that says ‘I don’t care who you are – if you want to be better, I support you. It is about acknowledging, respecting and enhancing others’ history and identity. It staunchly supports the universal human rights of others, raising a fist for the good fights of feminism, Black Lives Matter and LGBTQIA* rights. It is a song that speaks to the truth of what is important – he tangata, he tangata, he tangata,” says Dillastrate (AKA ‘H’ Kaa and Tim Driver).
The song came organically during a writing session with audio engineer Jamie Thomson during recording sessions in mid-2020. It was produced by Tim Heeringa (aka Wulfie) and recorded at Orange Studio.
The dynamic two-piece have been making waves since bursting onto the local music scene with their 2017 EP, Black Diamond. Since then they have toured New Zealand extensively and supported some of the country’s biggest names including Sons of Zion and Katchafire.
Dillastrate are currently gearing up for the summer music circuit, including headline and festival shows all over New Zealand. By overwhelming popular demand, Dillastrate will be performing at the staple New Year’s Eve event in Hagley Park to say goodbye to 2020, with last year’s event attracting over 22,000 people in attendance. The band’s recording work is ongoing, with future music releases in the pipeline for early 2021.
