Weekends is a fusion of the South Auckland artist’s distinctive RnB-meets-reggaeton vibe, with a catchy-as-hell hook and a killer verse in Spanish delivered by New Zealand-based, Columbian rapper NAFTA LD.
The euphoric party tune comes as we near the end of what’s been one of the most challenging year’s in recent history. And Soul Brown and NAFTA LD are here to get the celebrations started.
“It’s all about visualizing the weekend in its normal state; after all the lockdowns and the journey we’ve had with COVID. It acknowledges the build-up to the big banger of a party everyone deserves,” says Soul.
And with Aotearoa currently in COVID level alert 1 and heading into summer, there’s plenty to celebrate!
Adding to the magic of ‘Weekends’ is the story of how the song came to life. Originally written in the comfort of Soul’s living room at 2am on Garageband, it was then produced by Emmanuel Ensink.
Soul Brown is proud Samoan/Fijian. Born into a family that exposed him to eclectic music genres, he also grew up surrounded by the vibrancy of the Pasifika cultures that flood Manukau. Familiar with adversity, Soul triumphed over cancer when he was 12. His writing, poetry and songs were initially born out of a need to escape his reality, with the intention to inspire others to persist through tough times. True to his message, he has been hustling in the music scene since his debut release Don’t Sweat It in 2011.
Now with Weekends unleashed upon the world and new music on the horizon, Soul Brown is sizzlin’.
