Poneke-based 8-piece soul/dub supergroup Dr Reknaw present their latest track, Bassline Meditation, an airy summertime groove accompanied by a playful video shot at a friend’s birthday party.
Bassline Meditation, written by bassist/vocalist Sophie Cooper, is a soulful and laidback ode to music itself, and it’s often almost magical healing of the mind, body and soul.
Speaking of the track, Sophie says, “Bassline Meditation is a sentimental love song to the magical force that is music. An ode to the goodness she radiates into our lives. The sweetest but strongest love affair is the one we have with Music.”
Playful riffs swirl around uplifting vocal harmonies offered up by sisters Sophie and Julia Cooper, resulting in an infectious and flirty anthem that leaves the listener humming along and feeling a lot better than they did less than 5 minutes earlier.
Dr Reknaw, featuring members Zane Hawkins, Luther Hunt,Sophie Cooper, Julia Cooper, Ben Stewart, Eilish Wilson, Jules Blewman and Hayden Richardson, have an exciting year ahead of them, with their debut album, Rektified, set for release in March 2021, and Julia expecting her first baby.
