Anna Coddington releases the official video for her track, Do I Exist?, taken from her new album Beams. In an album written with an approach of ruthless self-expression, this video speaks to the the identity crisis-narrative of the song.
Directed by Anna Duckworth, the video is shot on and designed to be watched full-screen on your mobile.
"We are all many things to many people and we all struggle to find the balance sometimes.
We all have intimate, interesting and intense relationships with our phones. The way we connect (or disconnect) with and perceive others, the way we project ourselves, the view we have of the world through our tailor made info streams.
New mothers especially find the balance of identity tricky. And our phones are something we get raked over the coals for using, yet they can be a lifeline to the outside world in those small isolated hours. So making this video on phones felt right. Watch it full screen on yours for full effect," - Anna Coddington
Leaning into her indie sensibilities, while maintaining a pop edge, the new album Beams sees Coddington exploring her place in the world across 10 tracks as a mother, musician, Maori & human being. After spending long periods of her career shying away from these subjects, Beams sees Coddington tackling them head on & at full speed, with honest abandon.
Produced by APRA Silver Scroll-winning duo Steph Brown & Fen Ikner aka LIPS, Beams captures an artist & producer working cohesively, combining the indie/electronic-pop style of LIPS alongside Coddington’s penchant for storytelling. Each track explores a different aspect of Coddington’s personal life, and through that, exposes a plethora of universal, wonderful human emotions.
Coddington will also be performing as part of the 2021 Auckland Arts Festival, with Anna & her amazing band playing tracks from the new album, alongside a bespoke visual show from the artist behind the album art, Greta Menzies.
