“Who do you become when the lights go out?” That is the metaphysical conundrum presented by a brand new club night to hit Auckland. Starting from Friday 26th April @ Mix nightclub will host a brand new clubnight called Detour - a night dedicated to tribal, tech and progressive house music.
Detour will be hosted by resident DJ’s Rob Warner and Josh Webb, and feature weekly guest djs drawn from the pick of local and international talent - those with open-minded and forward-thinking musical styles.
The idea behind Detour is that sometimes the most ‘obvious’ path is not always the best one, and that idea applies equally to music. The true ‘progressive’ sound has been conspicuously absent from the Auckland music scene in the past barring a few visiting internationals (e.g. Steve Lawler & Danny Howells) who have been very well received.
Detour will open up new possibilities for DJ’s who will be able to play beautiful music in the perfect place, context and vibe, and be joined by the new breed (no pun intended) of clubbers who have come to expect ‘more’ from a night out than just a jukebox-like DJ playing the latest smash-hits! Detour is all about the music, and Mix nightclub is the perfect venue for such a night with a relaxed and friendly vibe, lots of comfy seating and funky surroundings, and a newly installed Martin EM Wavefront sound sytem that is clearly one of the best in town.
The first month at Detour will feature the talents of resident DJ’s Rob Warner and Josh Webb, who are both long time purveyors of progressive styles and well established DJ’s in their own right. They will be joined in the first month by names including DJ Callam Mitchell (from Bunker Records and Prominent Productions, Chch), Greg Churchill (given the opportunity play a progressive set) and Kasey Taylor (widely regarded as Australias top prog DJ and founded of top Australian label Vapour Recordings).
So you are all invited to join us for Detour @ Mix… trainers are recommended and a good attitude is essentia! Make sure you’re there for opening night where we will have giveaways of limited edition Detour CD’s (mixed by Rob and Josh) for the first 50 people in the door. This is what people have been asking for, so come and support the new underground movement - find out what happens when the lights go out….
Hope to see you all there!
Josh Webb & Rob Warner
