New Zealand’s progressive bluegrass supergroup, You, Me, Everybody, announce the release on January 29 of Southern Sky.
You, Me, Everybody have gained national recognition, being named as finalists for New Zealand’s Best Folk Artist for 2021 by pushing boundaries to create their own form of New Zealand’s progressive bluegrass. Southern Sky is self produced and features 11 songs and instrumentals all written and arranged by the band. Recorded at Bagnall Hill Recording studio in the small Waikato settlement of Te Pahu in October 2020, with sound engineer Bevan Galbraith (NZ) with mixing done by Grammy Award winning Bluegrass master, Bil VornDick (USA). Southern Sky challenges the usual rhythms and chord patterns of traditional bluegrass to create songs that feature more complex and nuanced emotional subjects such as alienation and isolation, in addition to the staples of whiskey, love and loss.
The band was founded by brothers Laurence Frangos-Rhodes (guitar and vocals), Sam Frangos-Rhodes (vocals, mandolin and fiddle), and features James Geluk (bass), Kim Bonnington (vocals) and Nat Torkington (banjo).
Mixed in Nashville at Mountainside Audio Labs and mastered by Mike Gibson of Munki Studios in Wellington.
