Music News - Evermore makes #1 in Australia

22 January 2007 - 0 Comments

For the first time in over 10 years a New Zealand band hits #1 on the Australian Singles Charts.

Evermore's latest single Light Surrounding You goes to #1 and in doing so they become the first New Zealand band to hit #1 in Australia for nearly 11 years.

The last time a Kiwi band had a #1 single in Australia was April 1996 when OMC's How Bizarre ruled the Australian airwaves and singles chart.

The lighter-waving centrepiece of Evermore's platinum album Real Life has proven to be a big hit on both sides of the Tasman, something the band are making the most of as they play the main stage at this year's Big Day Out.

"Its amazing," said 19 year-old drummer Dan Hume, "to have such massive crowds at the Big Day Out singing Light Surrounding You along with us, and it's the #1 single in Australia!"

Evermore have sold close to a quarter of a million albums in Australia; their latest album Real Life is about to go double platinum. Here in New Zealand we are not far behind with Real Life comfortably platinum having debuted on the National Album Chart at #2 back in July last year.
