Having recently released the Style Dem Ripe EP in Oct 2020, Grenell is back with a new high-energy single featuring 3 MC’s from around the globe but all with roots in Jamaica.
King Ru (aka Ru.CL) has been a staple in the Australian Reggae Dancehall scene with 2 LP’s and a single with Gappy Ranks under his belt. When Grenell and King Ru linked in Melbourne for a collab, the journey of Clap Back begun.
Rubi Du (FKA Silva MC) is New Zealand’s premier female South Pacific Reggae and Roots vocalist. Having released her second EP Most High in 2020, Rubi Du was on tour in Melbourne when Grenell invited her to the studio for a session. After meeting King Ru for the first time, verses 1 & 2 were in the bag, which then led to a lyrical sparring match of 4 bar trades that can be heard on verse 4!
Grenell envisaged Deadly Hunta on the tune as well, which was recorded in the UK when he was there last. This song has been a labour of love and is a testament to the sonic perfection Grenell strives for in all his releases.
Mixed by John Clayton at Increase Audio, Melbourne and mastered by Dan Gresham at NTMastering in the UK, Clap Back is just the beginning of a slew of new music from the Kiwi producer based in Melbourne.
Clap Back is available on all music services from Friday 19th February 2021 and was included in the NZ On Air New Tracks compilation which has been sent out to every radio station in New Zealand.
