One Love 2007: BYO guidelines clarified

01 February 2007 - 0 Comments

The One Love 2007 festival organisers today announce the alcohol guidelines for the event, following negotiations with local authorities.

People attending the event, this Tuesday February 6 (Waitangi Day) at the Hataitai Velodrome, will be allowed to bring their own alcohol to One Love, provided that it is not brought in glass containers.

Now in its tenth year, One Love has enjoyed a trouble-free record by promoting a laid-back atmosphere and responsible drinking.

“One Love is an event that celebrates unity and harmony on Waitangi Day and we believe that we can continue the previous policy of allowing people to bring their own refreshments to the event,” said organiser Dave Gibbons.

“Just like previous years, Wellingtonians can come to One Love, spend a day in the sun with their mates, soak up the good vibes and drink responsibly. We’ll also operate an enclosed cash bar for people to drink in a safe environment.”

There are no liquor control bylaws for the Hataitai Velodrome. BYO is acceptable for the venue but organisers will strictly enforce the no-glass policy. This clarifies previous statements that there was to be no BYO.

“The rule of ‘no-glass’ be strictly adhered to,” said Mr Gibbons. “No one wants to be the idiot who breaks glass for someone else to cut themselves on.”

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, One Love presents a day-long festival of good music, chilled vibes and unity. 17,000 people attended last year’s event.

This year’s line-up includes performances from House of Shem, Olmecha Supreme, Adi Dick and Home Fire Burning with DJ support from Ras Twig, Topknot and Carlito. In addition, One Love features a bar, arts & crafts, fashion and food stalls, and amusements for the kids.
