Recorded at both Roundhead and Parachute studios, with producers Ben Malone and Greg Haver, the heart-felt soulful track highlights Bartells distinctive and emotive vocals. Not afraid to look deeply inwards, Bartells puts his story-telling skills to good use, writing brutally honest lyrics that infiltrate the listeners’ heart with their piercing sincerity.
“Queen Of Hurt is a heavy-hitting love song in some ways”, explains Bartells. “It’s letting off steam about battling addiction, and hurting the ones you love, and sometimes not knowing what to do next, or even if you’re gonna make it.”
Music fans were given a full introduction to this contemporary alt-rock-country troubadour with the release last year of his debut EP Let’s Go, recorded in Nashville. It was a promising start, with chart and radio action here and internationally, via the dark and moody lead track Blessed & Broken, the melodic, uplifting balladry of second single Sign, and finally the title track, Let's Go.
Now at an exciting and rejuvenated point of renewal and change in his life, the road to redemption and sobriety is a continuing theme in Bartells life. By sharing the challenges he’s faced in his life through his music, Bartells hopes to carry listeners with him on a revealing and emotionally healing musical trip.
Not taking his foot off the pedal, Bartells shows no signs of slowing down during these uncertain times and continues to make plans for playing live - despite suffering the complications involved with lockdown cancellations. Meanwhile, it’s more writing and recording new material, with the expectation to release a new album later in the year. Watch this space!
