Christchurch born-and-bred ‘froth-rockers’ Kimono are proud to announce the release of their debut EP Hazy. After the release of their singles My Girl and Smash in 2020 - the 8 track EP will be dropping on March 12th 2021.
Kimono’s sound is inspired by the world around them - heavily influenced by Christchurch City, the ‘03 itself - where they are based. Drawing influence from the heaving pool of talent in the local indie scene, through to time spent honing and studying their craft at Ara Jazz School, the Kimono boys bring a fresh new flavour to the Christchurch and New Zealand band scene.
With songs that tell rich stories of bad tinder dates, to unrequited love, to longing for lost lovers and more, their music is ripe with story. These tales are carried over dreamy guitars, and hypnotic bass-lines, through to hard hitting riffs, and ripping lead lines - there is truly something for everyone on this EP.”Kimono is the brain-child of an original three good mates, Reuben, Sam and Nikos, after they got together to have a “blues jam” - the subsequent jam was a lot less blues-y, and a lot more indie rock-y, and after a couple of shows and some writing the trio expanded to a four-piece with Austin joining on lead guitar.
Having had the opportunity to support such acts as The Butlers, Dolphin Friendly, There’s a Tuesday, and The Raddlers and play events and venues such as UCSA Tea Party, Cassel’s Banks Peninsula Festival and the Christchurch’s iconic Isaac Theatre Royal within their first year alone, the Kimono boys have established a growing, genuine following, and have plans to continue this throughout 2021 and beyond.
